NASSAU COUNTY COURTHOUSE RENOVATION
The restoration of this historic 1891 courthouse was completed in the Summer of 2003. The renovation included the removal of 20 feet of the existing 1950's annex to allow the original courthouse to regain its prominence on Centre Street in downtown Fernandina Beach.
Interior improvements allowed the old courtroom to be reestablished, with office space allocated for Judicial and Court functions, Clerk of the Courts, and Tax Collectors branch office needs. Upgrades to meet current ADA requirements included the installation of an elevator.
Different elements were used in order to separate the 2 period styles of Architecture (1891 and 1950). A new roof and entrance, plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems fit into existing elements to unite the two buildings as a cohesive judicial complex. Another unique feature of this project was the full restoration of the existing bell tower.
