CLAUDE J. YATES CITY HALL ANNEX RENOVATION
Completed for the City of Jacksonville, the goal of this project was to evaluate existing buildings in one city block and recommend the best use for the Offices of the Tax Collector and Property Appraiser. The total project consisted of additions and renovations of 100,000 square feet of space.
The central structure was built in 1914 and was used as inspiration for the two new office wings. A recessed glass connector clad joins the structures, allowing each structure to express its character without overshadowing the other. A special requirement of the client, the gentle slope of the site enabled entrances to the building to be split into first and second floors, providing independent street access to the government agencies occupying each level.
The height of the six story, 660-space parking structure was kept in line with the height of the office wings., with a drive-in teller for the Tax Collector and a bus drop-off for the convenience of staff and the public.
